But be aware that NO WHERE is totally safe. If a commerical site like this one, with the exchange, can't keep it totally safe then what hope does a private fan-site have? - edited August 2010mts? they don't really have a huge selection, but they have some. savio & anubis have awesome hair. cazy has a few I like.

Any sorry for seeming like a complete n00b here, but I've never downloaded custom content into The Sims 3, only The Sims 2. So how exactly do I do it? Where do I put the content? - edited August 2010I've always heard Peggy Zone recommended a lot for hair downloads.

I have never had a problem with Peggy Zone - edited August 2010Read this on how to download:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/73573.page - edited August 2010No CC is 100% safe, but if you're careful what you download, you should run into a minimal amount of problems--none, if you're lucky.
If you check out my legacy info page here, the bottom of the info description has links to many of the CC sites that I've used and had good luck with.
I second what keleya said to definitely be very careful of anything from TSR, though. There's only one creator that I download anything from there, and that's Newsea.RED DIRT ROAD: THE ORIGINAL TAYLOR FAMILY LEGACY - The Sims 4 Edition - edited August 2010So the Sims wiki is telling me to put the Mod folder in through My Documents and everything else is telling me to put it through Program Files.
Which one is correct? - edited August 2010Hey there. I never got the hang of installing CC, but if you are prepared to use the exchange I have a quick way of getting loads. Fully copy the link in my siggy for a safe, non CC download, which includes only hairs.

Okay, not true! First off one of the biggest problems with all this bad cc is people recommending unsafe cc as safe. Rose sims has a few items, including, but not limited to: http://sims3.crinrict.com/badcc/Images/rose_c018.pnghttp://sims3.crinrict.com/badcc/Images/rose_sims3_hat.jpghttp://sims3.crinrict.com/badcc/Images/NewMesh_rose_sims3_body11.png

that are damaging to the game, and cause an assortment of critical game play problems. Also, TSR is safe as long as you pay ATTENTION to what you are downloading, and realize that teen clothes can't be in the same category as adult and young adult. Basically, NOTHING and I repeat NOTHING, should ever be categorized for babies (hair, makeup, accessories, clothing). Toddlers are a category of their own, same with teen and elder. Male and Females shouldn't be mixed either.
For the love of all things sim, I am not trying to be mean but the reason the exchange is so plum is not EA's fault, it's because people don't pay attention to what they are downloading, or at least test things before they re-upload for everyone else..and mess up our games too. Do some research before you download, and word to the wise..if you don't know what you are doing, you probably shouldn't download cc at all..but if you insist, just don't put it on the exchange. http://sims3.crinrict.com/badcc/en/BadCC_Clothing.html

There ARE problems with Peggy sims.

Just to name one, but there are others, and I agree with the fact that no site is completely 100% safe. Every time EA has a patch the cc's can go funky. TSR is good, but you need to know WHAT to stay away from..I posted the site at the bottom. Also just stay away from anything that is SHYMOO and waters things. - edited March 2013OMG before i went onto this site i joined up to the sims resource and read that it was un safe HELP WHAT DO I DO ????

http://simmingwithsirens.tumblr.com/tagged/sim-downloads - edited June 2013Newsea makes some fantastic hair. You can find some of them on TSR, but she has her own site now. Though she offers many of her hairs for donation, she also has plenty of free ones which are just as nice as the donation ones and she also makes them for all ages which is always cool. You can find her site here:

TSR itself is safe, but like the exchange they have a lot of different people submitting things, and some of them don't know what they are doing and put stuff on there that is buggy, LOL. As long as you are careful whose creations you download you will be safe, so if you want to download hair from there I suggest you just stick to downloading hair by Newsea, Cazy, Ulker, and Skysims3, I've never had any problems with those creators. - edited July 2013This place has only two hairs, but their lipstick, skin, etc are safe. I use them myself. All of them are HD, so it slows a bit, but nothing really noticeable.

The site itself is not unsafe it is the ads on the site, also there are a lot of people who disagree with the practices of the owner of the site. Just be careful what you download there, and get Delphy's Dashboard to get rid of corrupted files with custard. - edited July 2013I am still searching for a good droopy mexican-style tash and wolverine sideburns.
